239/365 Gb's

How many Gb's does it take to shoot  a wedding with a new 21 Mp Canon 5D Mark II?
A whole lot, if you shoot in RAW, which I do!! I may have to pick up another 16 Gb tomorrow - ouch!!
These weddings are costly!

238/365 Airports

Just spent the last 14 hrs in transit, sitting in airports or on a plane. I am looking forward to my own bed tonight. Work in less then 8 hrs.
This from the runway in Atlanta Georgia..... where my camera should probably have been "safely stowed under the seat in front of me or in an overhead bin".

But here is the real photo of the day - downtown Minneapolis.
LOVE my new camera!

236/365 Hancock

No Alligators today. Fabulous day at Hunting Island with tons of great photos but this one is still my fave of the day.
This is Hancock, my sisters cat.
He is spoiled.
And he knows it!

235/365 Water Lily

Went for a long bicycle ride today - saw an alligator but didn't get close enough to get a photo I liked. So today it is a water lily. Water Lilys don't chase you. Perhaps an alligator tomorrow?

234/365 Sheldon Church, South Carolina

The Church of Prince William Parish, known as Sheldon, was built between 1745-1755. It was burned by the British Army in 1779 and rebuilt in 1826.
Then it was burned again by the Federal Army in 1865. The yard surrounding the church has many tombstones of the Bull family who settled in this area in late 1600's and commishssioned the building of this church.

233/365 Blue Crabs

They start out a pretty blue when they are still alive, but they are red when they come out of the pot.
Served up wth BBQed clams and fresh oysters from the Okatie and it makes for an evening feast, low country style.

230/365 Hilton Head Marina

I know, it doesn't look like a marina. This is my shot of he day because it represents the chillin' out that we are feelin' right now. I have lots of shots of Hilton Head but this is my fav. And that is the coolest Bud Lite Lime bottle I hve ever seen.

228/365 Travellers Umbrella

There are several unique murals/screens in the Minneapolis airport. They are advertizing for Travellers Insurance - their logo is an umbrella. The murals are giant umbrellas made from a mass of tiny umbrellas. The large umbrellas are there until someone walks by and then the tiny umbrellas disperse all over the screen. And if you really go at it, you can make the tiny umbrellas really do fun things. I almost joined this little girl.
Love how her skirt matches the umbrellas.

226/365 travel plans

We have been putting in a lot of long days and weeks the past few months and tonight we are officially on holidays.
Yahoo!! I love putting that temp message on my work phone "I will be away from my desk until...." Once that is done and the computer powered down, I am outa there!

To celebrate, sort of, we met for a glass of wine after work and sat down with the pen and serviette to finally talk about what exactly we wanted to do on these R&R days. I voted for sleep and read cheap  books, but my love has other plans.... can you tell where we are going and what he has planned?
I didn't think so.
He writes like I imagine his twin brother the Dr likely writes.
I told him I was game for all of it but reserved the right to just retreat to bed with a book, or my camera, or the laptop.
I can tell ya though. There will be some fabulous photo ops.
The vacation doesn't officially start until Sunday (oh 5:40 am) I have a Wedding shoot tomorrow. But after that I will be filling the 16 GB card.
So can you tell where we are going and what we are doing? It's all there.....somewhere. Even the route.

225/365 Pizza

One of those weeks. Early to the gym, busy all day at work, busy in the evenings, no food in the house.... want to have a pizza tonight? You bet!
Haven't been here and done this since.... well since the last time we did it.

224/365 Fancy Cheesecake

Ken brought cheesecake to Bible study again tonight - fancy cheesecake. Fancy cheescake to celebrate Tracey (Greg's new bride) now joining us at Bible study.
... and we discussed our recent weight gains. Getting fat on more than the Word.

oh.... but it was GOOD!

223/365 Colossians

Love how marked up my husband Bible is.
Love it when he is passionate about the Word.
Found it on the kitchen table tonight - perfect target for the 365 photo.

Let us carefully hold fast the great doctrine of the plenary inspiration of every word of the Bible. Let us never allow that any writer of the Old or New Testament could make even the slightest verbal mistake or error, when, writing as he was “moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21.) Let it be a settled principle with us in reading the Bible, that when we cannot understand a passage, or reconcile it with some other passage, the fault is not in the Book, but in ourselves. The adoption of this principle will place our feet upon a rock. To give it up is to stand upon a quicksand, and to fill our minds with endless uncertainties and doubts.

222/365 Rhubarb

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself...... picked up my new 70-200 zoom lens today!

And I LOVE it. Incredible clarity. Oh but I am going to find it real hard to go to work this week!!

Another plug for Don's Photo - man those guys are so helpful. I have picked the brains of Dan, Scott, Geoff and Thomas - each for over an hour. And they don't mind. They don't appear to hide when I walk into the store anyways. I have learned more from these guys then any manual in the past two months.

Here we have the backyard rhubarb - hardy plant that says phewy to snow! Yes spring WILL come and my rhubarb is proof. Got this after work today. Thankful for longer days.

221/365 Scary Face!

I took the Canon to church hoping to get a shot of our son-in-law preaching this am. And I did.
But then we went for lunch with friends and this little one showed me her scary face.... and well is it so much cuter then my son-in-laws preaching face.
Sorry Sammy.
Maybe next time.

220/365 Flowers

Still working with the new camera, off camera lighting - ya - working with a slave!
Figuring out my new remote transmitter.... it gives directions to my slave.
I like having a slave - and wouldn't mind getting another slave. And maybe a third one too. Just think of the possibilities.

219/365 April Storm

Headed home from Wpg today and it was VERY windy on that HWY!
About 5 min north of Regina there was a sign telling us the HWY was closed. Yet it was clear and sunny and except for the very strong wind, it was great driving. So we turned on the radio to find that home had been it with a blizzard and hwys were closed and travel not recommended.
Very hard to believe given the sunny skies.
We kept going and decided to prepare ourselves for a possible over night in a small town.
There were not very many cars on the hwy and the closer we got to home the more semis we saw in the ditch - just blown off the road by the wind. Six in total. That must be a terrifying experience for the driver.
The hwys were not too bad and we settled in behind a semi and let him clear the way for us. Took is slow and easy all the way home and are thankful to be warm and cosy now.
This fellow with the sign was having a really hard time not getting blown backward off the road. There were two huge tow trucks trying to right this semi.

218/365 Abbey Road

Gathering for a funeral for one so young was really hard - for everyone but especially for the few so very close to her. There was much mourning, much sadness and many tears.
But the mourning eventually turned to celebration of a life of kindness, generosity and love.
When the six brothers gather, for any reason, there will be lots of hugs and words of encouragement but eventually someone will break out the scotch and the youngest will sit down at the piano. Then the other brothers will pick up a guitar and a best friend from childhood will grab the bongo drums.
And the place will start to rock! The music and the laughter will permeate the street. There will even be some dancing.

Then someone will ask for a photo  (me) and someone will have an idea! (the brother) and here you have Abby Road with a little help from Photoshop.

217/365 Wheel reflection

Wheely!
Road trip - which is why I am late posting - I did not have internet for three whole days.....!
And I coped just fine - finished my novel.
Unfortunately David and I needed to make an unexpected road trip to Wpg for the passing of our dear sister in law. It was a very, very sad time. But there was joy in seeing so many of the Cortens clan and the six brothers were able to jam! And revisit some old Beatles favorites. See tomorrows post.
Took this while passing a semi on the hwy.
Although I am posting this on Friday, I have changed the date to Wednesday when the photo was actually taken.

216/365 Birds

Well we finally filled up the bird feeders and it looks like the birds have called a truce on the boycott of our yard. So wonderful to have them back. Some yellow finches were at the finch feeder today too.

214/365 Easter Sunday

Still trying to figure out the new camera.
And the new flash.
Easter at our house - very quiet - missing four kids and a grand daughter. :(
But the food was good and there will be left overs for a week.

213/365 Spring

The ice is melting on the river and today I was blessed to go for a 12 mile bike ride with my love.
We heard and saw lots of Canada Geese too. More photos on my reg blog

212/365 John 19:30

When he had received the drink Jesus said, "It is finished."
With that he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

211/365 New Friend

Olympus, meet my new friend... Canon. I hope you will be best friends.
I still need you - you are my trusty back up, you are still my solid architecture and landscape friend. Really, I still need you.... but, well, you know your weakness and Canon is going to help us out.  I think we can all be the best of friends.
It's okay. I am still really attached to you.
